What is Retrofitting?

Retrofitting is the process of replacing outdated or old systems with newer more energy efficient comparable systems.

Retrofitting is rising in popularity in the housing industry.  Many people realize that upgrading to better lighting, electrical, temperature management, plumbing, data, and security systems offer better lifestyle options and reduced lifetime cost.  Upgrading does require an initial investment.  The smart retrofitter will research his or her options and analyze which choices will bring them the best upgrade for their lifestyle, comfort, ecological footprint, and reduction of waste.

In Lighting, retrofitting usually revolves around replacing outdated soft white incandescent lamps and old fixtures with energy-efficient LED lamps and exploring the realm of modern fixtures.  The best LED lamps may remain in your home longer than your children!  An average high-quality bathroom LED lamp being used 3 hours each day will last upwards of 20 years.

Some of the newest technology includes fixtures and even lamps that connect remotely to your Smart Home or iPhone.  LED lamps can mimic the yellow “soft white” of traditional incandescent lamps or flood the house with “daylight” of a blue Florida summer sky.  The options are literally endless.

Do the green thing and join the retrofitting trend!
